Pilot was ready to take off but then he came under family radar

Imagine you have your father at your home who want to see you succeeding but he has put a bar for your success. He wants your success to remain less than what he himself had achieved. The prevailing situation in the Congress party appears similar after the ouster of young and bright leader Sachin Pilot. Sachin Pilot was looking to fly higher but he came in a radar which has shot down his wings. This is the radar of a family which had shot many including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jyotiraditya Scindia and the list goes on. The Gandhi family obsession with Congress is not new. In fact, this obsession had diluted the original Congress party which had fought for the independence of India after Indira Gandhi had split the party in 1969 to save her political ambitions.

Since then, Congress has evolved as a party where the topmost thing for anyone to survive is the loyalty to the Gandhi family. You can have less quality to be an efficient politician, but one should ensure that they have loyalty to the Gandhi family. However, this family influence in the party has not done anything good to the prospect of Congress. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, Congress had undoubtedly able to form government under UPA-1 and UPA-2 but it was not because they enjoyed massive public support unlike the Modi government. They had formed the government because of arithmetics and  decent political alliance.

But since 2014, after the emergence of dominant and power-packed leadership of Modi, the Congress is in the doldrums and the party is facing the crisis on their existence. No one should be blamed expect Gandhi family who is constantly trying to relaunch the family prince Rahul Gandhi. This is something like putting an effort to repackage once flopped product with a marketing strategy in the market.  But marketing strategy only works if the product is useful, if the product is useless then no marketing strategy will work.

There are countless elections which Congress had poorly lost since 2014 and even if they claim winning Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, it was all because of the influence of young leaders like Scindia and Sachin Pilot. It was not because the charisma of Rahul Gandhi which is a myth today harming Congress. But yet, these influential young leaders we’re given a back seat and the old horse like Gahelot and Kamalnath was given the front seat. It was all because the Gandhi family want no one to emerge as mass leader who will challenge the Gandhi family fortunes in Congress. Old leaders are experienced and they must look after the organisation strength and young leaders must get their deserved status in Congress but Gandhi family will allow this seems beyond possibility. This is the core difference between BJP and Congress. For BJP, the nation is first, party is second and family is last but for Congress family is first because the culture of Congress have equated the nation to family.

This is the not the same India which it used to be in the 1990’s or 2000 when there was dearth of leadership and people would accept anyone like Dr. Manmohan Singh as leader pushed by Gandhi family. This is 2020 where we have influential leaders like Modi, Yogi, and Shah. The battle is very tough and so competitors like Rahul or Priyanka from the family can’t even stand in this contest. People have yet not forgotten the administrative blunders of Congress regime and Congress pushing forward the leadership of same family again and again is not offering voters anything new. In addition, the character of Gandhi family among voters is not good after the recent exposes on their links to China and their conduct on national issues.

Sacrificing  young and influential leaders may put family interest in the safe zone but it will continue to eat Congress like a termite. The congress needs introspection which is already much delayed for them instead of blaming BJP. Democracy needs opposition but for Congress, they need internal  Democracy  first  which  appears  dying  now.
